ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER (SATELLITES)
As part of the SpaceX Satellites Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team, you will play a pivotal role in providing technical EHS support to our satellite manufacturing teams. You will provide technical expertise and assist in the implementation of all environmental, health and safety to our satellite and dish manufacturing teams. The ideal candidate is highly skilled with both environmental and occupational safety fields, hands-on, and works well in a fast-paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, implement and improve environmental compliance programs at SpaceX’s Silicon Engineering and Satellites locations including Redmond, WA, Woodinville, WA, Sunnyvale, CA, Irvine, CA and Palo Alto, CA
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations established by applicable California, Washington and federal regulatory agencies
- Track, review, and interpret new and proposed environmental laws and regulations, and provide guidance to management
- Perform environmental audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies
- Operate and maintain the compliance calendar and other recordkeeping and environmental tracking software
- Maintain site operational compliance plans including the storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) and spill prevention control and countermeasures plan (SPCC)
- Responsible for air compliance, recordkeeping and reporting requirements established for permitted sources defined by the local regulatory agencies
- Maintain the site’s hazardous materials business plan including updates and regulatory submittals
- Maintain the site’s industrial wastewater discharge permit including updates and regulatory submittals
- Responsible for hazardous waste compliance and regulatory reporting
- Coordinate and manage contractors for permitting and environmental testing. Review and maintain reports and other relevant records from assessments and permitting activities
- Assist the Environmental Health and Safety team with site operational compliance as needed
- Assist in planning for changes in physical facilities, reviewing new or modified equipment and new manufacturing programs to meet regulatory and permitting requirements
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with federal, state, and county regulators
- Develop and maintain positive and close working relationships with engineering teams across the site
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 4+ years of professional experience in the design, development, and execution of environmental and regulatory compliance programs
- Experience working multi-site operations
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in environmental engineering
- Experience in environmental field with 6+ years of environmental and regulatory compliance in a dynamic manufacturing environment
- California and Washington regulatory and environmental compliance experience
- Experience developing and maintaining air emissions permits under California Air Quality Management Districts/Air Pollution Control Districts and Washington State Department of Ecology jurisdiction
- Experience permitting and maintaining industrial discharges through the Los Angeles County Sanitation District and Washington State Department of Ecology
- Experience developing and maintaining SWPPPs and site BMPs for stormwater compliance in California and Washington
- Experience with following agencies: California Air Quality Management District/Air Pollution Control Districts, Los Angeles County Sanitation District, Regional Water Quality Control Board, Certified Unified Program Agency, Department of Toxic Substances Control, Washington State Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Agency
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience handling highly technical data and technical data interpretation
- Track record of successful analysis, interpretation, and application of rules and regulations towards practical solutions
- Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with other engineers, managers, federal, state and county agencies.
- Ability to handle many projects at once, prioritize work, and work efficiently
- Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment with ongoing drive for continuous improvement in all aspects of work
- Experience using booking systems
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA area and or Seattle, WA area
- Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed
- Requires 50% travel
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year
Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
