Atrial fibrillation affects an estimated 60 million people worldwide. For many at-risk patients, access to regular heart rhythm monitoring remains limited by the boundaries of routine clinical care. Expanding that access, in a way that is practical, connected and compatible with existing care pathways, is the challenge that OMRON Healthcare Global , Luscii - an OMRON Healthcare service and Happitech are working to address.
OMRON Healthcare is now conducting a three-month pilot usability test in Italy, in partnership with Luscii and Happitech, to assess whether smartphone-based PPG technology can serve as a practical, easily scalable first line of monitoring for at-risk patients measuring their heart rhythm at home.
The test is running from May to July across three sites. At-risk patients use the Luscii app, which incorporates Happitech's PPG technology, to measure their heart rhythm from home. If an irregular rhythm is detected, the patient is referred back to their physician for appropriate follow-up. Where further monitoring is required, patients may have access to AliveCor's KardiaMobile single-lead or 6-lead portable ECG devices, with OMRON Healthcare offering discounted access as part of the pilot.
Improving access to heart rhythm monitoring at scale requires more than technology alone. It requires platforms that patients can use without friction and partners with the reach to deploy them meaningfully. The collaboration between OMRON Healthcare, Luscii and Happitech is built around that premise.
Happitech's technology has previously featured in atrial fibrillation detection programmes involving approximately 160,000 people. The Italy pilot tests a model designed to connect home-based monitoring to established clinical care pathways at the primary care level.
PPG and ECG technologies play complementary roles in the patient pathway. Happitech's smartphone-based PPG monitoring serves as an initial indicator, helping identify patients who may warrant closer attention. Where an irregular rhythm is detected, AliveCor's KardiaMobile personal ECG devices can provide patient-held ECG recordings to support rhythm confirmation and physician decision-making. Together, these technologies help close the diagnostic loop across a pathway that begins at home and connects back to clinical care.
For physicians, the aim is to support the earlier identification of patients who may require diagnostic follow-up, while fitting within existing care pathways and preserving diagnostic standards.

A younger patient in a consulting room at the Consorcio Hospital General Universitario de Valencia, getting their blood pressure measured, a routine moment in adult care, but one that remains remarkably rare in paediatrics.
eHyperKids is changing that. Led by Professor Empar Lurbe of the University of Valencia, this first-of-its-kind study in Spain will follow 116 children aged 6–16, combining OMRON Healthcare EMEA monitors validated for paediatric use with Luscii’s telemonitoring platform.
This initiative gives families an accessible way to track blood pressure at home, and clinicians the ability to review data remotely. This marks a happy moment between the Consorcio Hospital General Universitario de Valencia, OMRON Healthcare EMEA and Luscii. Stay tuned for updates.

And today we ride together! The Luscii team is taking on the Tour de Joris, a route past the homes of some Lusciians, in honor of ten years with co-founder Joris Janssen.

AI hallelujah? One of our founders Joris Janssen gave all of our engineers at Luscii the opportunity to pause their regular work for a week and experiment with AI.
Less than half showed up.
The ones who didn't weren't behind. They were seeing risks the excited ones were moving too fast to notice.
Turns out the engineers who skipped it had the most useful perspective.

In den letzten Jahren hat sich Remote Patient Monitoring deutlich weiterentwickelt, von kleinen Pilotprojekten hin zu einem festen Bestandteil der Versorgung.
Luscii wird mittlerweile in über 350 Implementierungen weltweit eingesetzt, in 11 Ländern 🌍, mit mehr als 30 klinischen Studien im Hintergrund.
Mit diesem Wachstum haben sich auch die Gespräche verändert, vor allem in Richtung Zugänglichkeit.
Denn damit Remote Care wirklich funktioniert, muss sie für alle zugänglich sein, auch für Menschen mit geringer digitaler Erfahrung oder für diejenigen, die eine besonders einfache Nutzung brauchen. Genau darauf haben wir uns stark fokussiert und dazu bekommen wir durchweg sehr positives Feedback.
