3M (originally Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company) is a diversified technology and manufacturing company headquartered in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Founded in 1902, the company develops and produces a wide portfolio of products used across major end markets including industrial and worker safety, transportation, electronics, and consumer categories.
3M positions its operating model around applying science and engineering platforms to solve customer problems, supported by broad R&D capabilities spanning materials science and digital/advanced engineering. In 2024, 3M completed the spin-off of its Health Care business as Solventum, making healthcare operations largely separate from the remaining 3M portfolio. In recent years, 3M has also communicated major changes related to PFAS, including a plan to exit PFAS manufacturing by the end of 2025 and a PFAS drinking-water settlement with U.S. public water suppliers that received final court approval in 2024.
