AI interview coach
Last updated
VirtualInterview.ai is a practice-only AI interview coach: it asks questions, follows up, and scores each answer on relevance, depth and clarity. The free plan gives 2 interviews a month (up to 5 questions each), with a full report on your first interview, and there is a 3-question round with no account.
The free plan includes 2 interviews a month with no card. The 3-question round needs no account.
The coaching loop
Coaching is a loop, not a single score. A number tells you how an answer did; a loop tells you what to do about it and checks whether it worked. Each practice session goes through the same four steps.
1. Ask
You choose a role, seniority, round format and language. The AI interviewer asks a question and listens to your answer, spoken or typed, then asks a follow-up when the answer is vague.
2. Score
Every answer gets a 1 to 5 score for relevance (did it answer the question), depth (a specific example, not a slogan) and clarity (could an interviewer follow it), each with a one-line reason.
3. Rewrite
The report points to the answers that need work and shows what a stronger version contains: the decision you made, the reason, and a result.
4. Retry
The practice plan tells you which question to redo first. You answer again, and the next report shows whether the score moved.
The loop works because the second attempt is cheap. You do not need to book a session or wait for a person to read your answer: you can redo a question the same minute, out loud, and see whether the depth score moves. The feature set is described on the AI interview coaching platform page, and the full flow from setup to report is on how it works.
A sample coaching exchange
Illustrative example, written for this page from the scoring rubric. It is not a real person's answer or result.
Interviewer
Tell me about a project that did not go to plan.
Candidate (first attempt)
We had a big project and things got delayed. It was stressful, but we worked hard as a team and it got done. I learned that communication matters.
Interviewer follow-up
What specifically caused the delay, and what did you do about it?
- Relevance
- 3 / 5
- Depth
- 1 / 5
- Clarity
- 3 / 5
Coach note: The answer names no project, no cause and no result, so an interviewer has nothing to probe. Name what went wrong, say what you did and when, and end with the change you now make.
Rewrite (what a stronger version contains)
A customer-import project slipped three weeks because I estimated the data cleanup from one sample file. When the real files arrived, a third needed manual fixes. I told the team that day, split the work into a script and a review pass, and moved the customer to a phased go-live. Since then I estimate from a sample of every file source.
What the coach looks at
The coach reads the text of what you said, whether you spoke it or typed it. It scores three things on every answer, and it does not guess at things it cannot see.
- Relevance: did the answer address the question that was asked, or a nearby one?
- Depth: is there a specific situation, a decision with its reason, and a result, or only general statements?
- Clarity: could an interviewer follow the order of the story the first time they heard it?
Questions follow the role, seniority and format you pick at setup, across 12 round formats. If you are preparing for one kind of round, the focused guides go further: behavioral interview practice and technical interview practice. You can run the interview in 50+ languages; see the interview language list.
Coach vs live copilot
The two get confused because both use AI and both touch interviews. They do different jobs at different times.
AI interview coach (this page)
- Used before the interview, as rehearsal.
- Asks the questions and scores your answers.
- Shows what to fix and lets you retry.
- The skill you build is yours on the day.
Live interview copilot
- Runs during a real interview.
- Suggests answers as the interviewer speaks.
- Using one can break an employer's interview rules.
- VirtualInterview.ai does not do this.
VirtualInterview.ai does not feed you answers during a real interview. If you want to compare it with other practice tools, see the best AI mock interview tools.

Questions
What is an AI interview coach?
An AI interview coach runs a mock interview with you, scores each answer against a rubric, and tells you what to change before you try again. On VirtualInterview.ai the AI interviewer asks questions and follow-ups by voice or text, scores every answer for relevance, depth and clarity, and ends with a report and a practice plan.
Is the AI interview coach free?
There is a free plan: 2 interviews a month, up to 5 questions each, with no card. Pro is $20/month or $200/year and allows up to 20 questions per interview. A quick 3-question round on the free mock interview page needs no account.
Does the coach replace a human coach?
No. It is available whenever you are and gives every answer the same rubric, which makes it good for repetition. A human coach can judge things the AI cannot, such as your industry network, a specific hiring manager, or how a story lands in the room. Many people use both.
Can the coach help me during a live interview?
No. VirtualInterview.ai does not feed you answers during a real interview. It is for rehearsal before the interview, not a live copilot.
Which languages and formats does it coach?
Interviews run in 50+ languages, chosen at setup, and in 12 round formats including behavioral, technical, system design, recruiter screen and panel.
