Privacy, explained
A plain-language guide to AI processing, retention, deletion and personal details. It is a summary: the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service are the controlling documents, and if this page ever differs, they win.
What goes to AI providers
Our AI features (interview feedback, scoring, resume analysis, question generation) use third-party AI service providers. Interview answers, resume text and job descriptions are sent to them, and real-time transcripts are streamed to them during an interview. We send only the minimum data needed for each request. For resume analysis that means parsed text, not the original file.
What the providers keep
Your data is processed in real time and is not retained by the provider after the response is generated. We use AI APIs with data-retention opt-out enabled, and the provider does not store it for model training.
How personal details are handled
Personally identifiable information, such as your name, phone number and address, is removed from resume content before it goes to the AI provider, where technically feasible. That wording matters: it is a safeguard applied where we can, not a promise that every identifier is removed from every kind of text you submit.
How long we keep things
Interview recordings are automatically deleted after 90 days unless you choose to save them, and you can delete a recording at any time from your dashboard. Resume data is kept until you delete it or after 1 year of inactivity. Account data is kept until you delete your account. Usage analytics are aggregated after 30 days.
Deleting your account
Delete your account from Settings, then Account, then Delete Account. That removes your data within 30 days. For immediate deletion, email privacy@virtualinterview.ai. The step-by-step version is on the account deletion help page.
Using the site without AI processing
AI processing is core to feedback, scoring and resume analysis, so those features need your data to be sent to the provider. If you would rather not, you can skip submitting interview responses or resumes; basic account management and browsing do not involve AI processing.
Who owns what you submit
You keep ownership of the content you submit. We keep the right to use aggregated, anonymized patterns to improve service quality.
