What a product manager resume has to show
- The product, its users and where it was in its life (zero to one, growth, mature)
- Decisions you made and what you chose not to do
- Outcomes in user or business terms, tied to something you shipped
- How you worked with engineering and design, including team size
Product Manager resume summary example
Illustrative example. Replace every bracketed item with your own facts.
Product manager with [X] years in B2B software, most recently owning onboarding for a product used by [X] accounts. Run discovery with customers, write the specs engineering asks for, and judge success on activation and retention. Seeking a growth-stage team that sets goals by outcome.
Experience bullets that carry results
Illustrative example. [X] marks a number only you can supply; do not publish a figure you cannot support.
- Reworked onboarding after [X] customer interviews, lifting week-one activation from [X]% to [X]%.
- Cut a [X]-month roadmap item after discovery showed [X]% of requesters had a simpler need, redirecting the team to a smaller release.
- Defined success metrics for [feature] and ran an A/B test with [X] users, with a result that [outcome].
- Partnered with [X] engineers and [X] designers to ship [X] releases in a quarter, using a weekly planning rhythm I introduced.
Skills for a product manager resume
Hard skills
- Product discovery and user research
- Roadmapping and prioritisation
- Metrics and experimentation
- Writing specifications
- SQL or analytics tools
Soft skills
- Influencing without authority
- Stakeholder management
- Clear writing
- Saying no with reasons
Show soft skills through a bullet that proves them rather than as a list of adjectives.
Common product manager resume mistakes
- Listing responsibilities ("owned the roadmap") with no outcome
- Claiming credit for engineering work or for a launch whose success you cannot trace to a decision
- Using internal product names the reader cannot place
- Omitting the team and company stage, which tells a reader how much was yours
ATS and keyword guidance
Product posts repeat a vocabulary: roadmap, discovery, prioritisation, A/B testing, OKRs, stakeholders. Use the ones that match your real work, in a bullet with a result. Avoid stacking framework names you have not used.
To see which of a posting's skills your resume is missing, run it through the ATS resume checker.
A template family to start from
Split Header (name left, contact block right). A businesslike header gets to the experience quickly, which is what product hiring managers read first.
