Sales Representative mock interview
Sales interviews often become a role play. The interviewer plays a buyer and waits to see if you ask questions before you pitch. A feature dump in the first minute is the usual miss.
Practice discovery, a clear next step, and one story of a deal you lost because you take the lesson without blaming the buyer.

1. How do you open a first call?
What they are testing: Discovery.
I confirm why they took the meeting and what a useful half hour would decide. I ask about the current process and the cost of leaving it as it is. I do not open slides until I know the problem.
Situational
2. The buyer says your price is too high. What do you say?
What they are testing: Objection handling.
I ask compared with what, and what outcome they are pricing. If we are not the right fit I say so. If we are, I connect the price to the cost they already named. I do not drop price as a reflex.
Behavioral
3. Tell me about a deal you lost.
What they are testing: Learning.
I lost because the economic buyer never joined and I kept forecasting it. I now ask who signs, and I move a deal out of commit when that person will not meet. The loss was my qualification, not the product.

4. How do you decide a deal is qualified?
What they are testing: Qualification.
There is a problem with a cost, a person who can buy, a timeline with a reason, and a next step on the calendar. If one is missing I do not call it commit. Hope is not a stage.
Situational
5. A champion goes quiet. What do you do?
What they are testing: Pipeline hygiene.
I send one note that restates the problem and the open question, and I ask for a yes, a no, or a new time. If that fails I try the economic buyer once. Then I close the opportunity instead of letting it age.
Behavioral
6. Describe a quarter when you were behind. What did you change?
What they are testing: Execution.
I stopped spending time on two stalled enterprise deals and doubled conversations in the segment that was actually closing. I told my manager the forecast change in week three, not week twelve.

7. How do you run a demo without making it a tour?
What they are testing: Demo craft.
I use their scenario from discovery and I skip the features that do not serve it. I check after each step whether it matches their process. A tour is what I do when I did not discover anything.
Situational
8. Procurement joins late and reopens price. How do you handle it?
What they are testing: Late-stage control.
I welcome them and restate the commercial shape already agreed with the buyer. I ask what they need to complete, and I do not renegotiate the value in front of a new audience without the champion.
Behavioral
9. Tell me about a time you walked away from a deal.
What they are testing: Fit.
The buyer wanted a custom build we do not do, and the discount would not have fixed that. I introduced a partner and closed our opportunity. The team kept the quarter cleaner.

10. What do you put in a forecast note?
What they are testing: Honesty.
The stage, the next step with a date, the risk, and what changed since last week. A number with no next step is not a forecast I will defend.
Frequently asked questions
Should I research the company before a sales interview?
Yes. Know what they sell and who buys it. Use that in the role play instead of a generic pitch you could give anywhere.
How do I talk about quota if I missed it?
Say the number, the reason, and what you changed. Blaming the territory without a change you made is a weak answer. Hitting quota without explaining how is also thin.
What if I have no formal quota yet?
Use internships, retail, fundraising, or a founder story. Count the conversations and the outcome. Label the context.
Can the mock be a role play?
Yes. Ask VirtualInterview.ai for a sales discovery role play. The follow-up usually objects on price or timing after you pitch too early.
